Ratings & Reviews
"The flagship 2003 Gernot Langes is composed of 70% Malbec, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc fermented with native yeasts and aged for 16 months in new French oak. It offers up an outstanding aromatic array of pain grille, spice box, violets, incense, black currant, and black cherry. Opulent and complex on the palate, it has layered flavors, savory, spicy fruit, plenty of fine-grained tannin, and a lengthy, 45-second finish. Give this first-class effort 6-8 years of cellaring and drink it from 2016 to 2028." - Jay S Miller (Aug 2009)
92 Points - Stephen Tanzer
"(70% malbec, 25% cabernet sauvignon and 5% cabernet franc) Saturated ruby-red. Sexy roasted oak complements aromas of currant, mocha, tobacco and musky earth. Lush and silky-sweet, with seamless, complex flavors of currant, blackberry, minerals, graphite and roasted meat. A wonderfully suave blend, finishing with sweet tannins and impressive length." - Stephen Tanzer (January 2009)
91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"Broad and powerful, with thick tannins driving the black Mission fig, espresso, loam, black licorice and Port-reduction flavors though the muscular finish. There's a long, lingering dark tobacco note. Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Drink now through 2011. 665 cases made." – JM (May 15, 2008)
91 Points - Wine Enthusiast Magazine:
"A new wine from Norton named after the winery’s Austrian owner, Gernot Langes, is a serious Bordeaux-style blend with creamy oak, vanilla, chocolate and espresso on the bouquet. It’s deep, dark and full of cassis and berry flavors. All totaled, this is a prized offering that’s textured and ripe. It has the right feel and the right stuff in general." - Michael Schachner (12/31/2008)
