About the Winery:
Nervi is the oldest officially-recognized winery in the Gattinara DOCG. It was founded by Luigi Nervi in 1906 and includes 24 hectares of Nebbiolo vines in the Casacce, Garavoglie, Molsino and Valferana vineyards. The Molsino vineyard is one of Piedmont's finest South facing amphitheaters. The Valferana vineyard can be traced back to 1242 as Valferane in Gattinara´s municipal deeds.

In recent years, Nervi has made three Gattinara cuvées—the two grands crus, Molsino and Valferana, and a blend including fruit from these two, plus grapes from the excellent crus of Garavoglie and Cassace. In addition, a crisp, fruit-driven rosato named Rosa is produced, composed of Nebbiolo augmented with Uva Rara sourced from the four Gattinara vineyards.

Made by strictly old-school methods, including lengthy fermentations and three to four years aging in neutral Slovenian oak botti, the Nervi Gattinaras have consistently been among the great Nebbiolos of the Alto Piemonte.

Ratings & Reviews

97 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2019 Gattinara Molsino is a dark, brooding wine. Smoke, incense, licorice and leather open in the glass, but only with great reluctance. A wine of tremendous persistence and presence, the Molsino is so impressive in 2019. It is also embryonic and in need of cellaring. The only question is how long. Time in the glass brings out the wine's natural resonance, offering a glimpse of what will come in time." Drinking window 2029-2049 - Antonio Galloni (Jun 2023)

94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Coming from one of the great sites from the volcanic soils of Gattinara, the 2019 Gattinara Molssino is smoky, with a darker profile of black and red fruits and notes of black cherry, leather, and wet asphalt. This medium-bodied red offers wonderful concentration and purity, with ripe yet present tannins as well as notes of gravelly earth, cranberry, and tea leaf. It is an outstanding wine expressive of its more northern terroir to drink over the coming 15 years." - Audrey Frick (May 2023)
