Notes from the Winemaker:
Intense dark red color. Very elegant with fine, velvety tannins. The wine has a harmonious structure, combined with a generous fruit expression and a very distinguished character showing aromas of red fruits, cassis and wild berry. In the mouth the wine is rich and layered with delightful notes of vanilla and coffee while the five percent of Petit Verdot adds an extra element of complexity.
A beautifully concentrated wine, mouth filling with an intense character, soft tannins and very, very long lasting. The structure of this wine will keep it for over 20 years.
Montes Alpha "M" is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon (80%), Cabernet Franc (10%), Merlot (5%), and Petit Verdot (5%), which links all the other grapes. The Cabernet Franc enhances the elegance of the first variety, and is in total harmony with the softness of the second and austere of the third. A rewarding high-end Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon.
Food Pairing: Highly recommended with baked turkey, rib eye steak, sherry kidneys, duck confit.
Origin: Apalta single estate in Colchagua Valley. The grapes are grown in the steep slopes of our Apalta estate.
Grape Varieties: 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot
Technical Data:
Alcohol: 14.8%
pH: 3.50 g/l
TA: 3.57 g/l
Raings & Reviews
94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2011 Montes Alpha M is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon with some Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. 2011 was a bit cooler than 2010, and the wine might have more edges, and a little higher acidity. I find better balance in this 2011 compared with the 2010, with nerve and acidity, volume and great balance. The nose is still closed, less expressive and benefits from air, but there is a greater sense of harmony and integration, and I think in the long run it will be a better wine. This is a classic. Drink 2015-2027." - Luis Gutierrez (Jun 2014)
93 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A fleshy red, with lusciously fruity flavors of dark plum, cherry compote and dried blackberry, long and well-spiced. Structured, with a focused acidity that supports the long finish, accented by dark chocolate and cream. Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Drink now through 2020. 750 cases imported." – KM (May 31, 2014)
