About this Wine:
This wine comes from the village of Clessé on land located in the heart of the appellation. The vines average 65 years in age and are planted on a slope to the southeast shelf called "The Mount". The altitude and good drainage of this Mount preserve the freshness of the grapes. Presses are located amidst the 15 hectares of The Mount, and the grapes are pressed without transport or delay on the site of the harvests. This wine is mostly vinified in stainless steel tanks and 20% from the oldest vines are fermented and aged in oak barrels of 450 or 600 liters. Bottling takes place at the end of spring.

Ideal as a pairing with shellfish and fish dishes, poultry, and goat cheeses.

Ratings & Reviews

Vinous Media:
"The 2022 Viré-Clessé Vieilles Vignes is from one parcel in Clessé, 55 to 80-year-old vines, fermented in 450 and 600-liter barrels. It has a taut and slightly more appley bouquet than expected, fresh with moderate complexity. The palate is fresh and saline on the entry with orange rind and touches of grapefruit, more tropical notes emerging towards the finish. This is well worth seeking out." - Neal Martin (Jan 2024)

Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"Made in 450 and 600 litre barrels, not new. Pale lemon. Softer on the bouquet with the lightly honeyed richness of the appellation, especially here at the Clessé end. A little muscat touch with some sucrosity even though only 12.5% alcohol. Useful acidity, with even a slight youthful bitterness. Drink from 2024-2027." (Oct 2023)

Wine Spectator:
"Evoking apple and grapefruit flavors, this taut white picks up a mineral hint that plays out on the finish. An intense version, with a brittle, bitter citrus finish. Drink now. 557 cases made, 150 cases imported." - Bruce Sanderson (Jun 2024)
