About the Winery:
The first documentary evidence of Grünhaus, then called “Villa ad Valles,” dates from February 6, 966. Emperor Otto I, heir of Charlemagne, confirmed a donation that had been made in the Seventh century by the Frankish King Dagobert. At that time, the buildings, vineyards and surrounding land had been given to the Benedictine monastery of Saint Maximin in Trier. In 1882, it was purchased by an ancestor of Carl von Schubert, who is the fifth generation of his family to own the Grünhaus estate.

About the Wine:
A precise and delicately defined dry-style Riesling, harvested from this estate's wholly-owned hillside of contiguous vineyards. The wine perfectly captures the exotic fruit and delicate precision that are classic characteristics of the Grunhaus estate. It is made in the German trocken (dry ) style, which balances a small amount of residual sweetness (less than nine grams per liter) with vibrant acidity.

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - James Suckling:
"Brimming with yellow and red apple, crisp pear and white peach fruit, this sleek and light-bodied dry riesling is wonderfully refreshing. Then the long, wet-stone and garden herb finish shows you the other side of this excellent entry-level wine. From organically grown grapes with Fair'n Green certification. Drink or hold. Screw cap." – Stuart Pigott (Oct 2024)

Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Schloss Riesling was harvested in the Maximiner Grünberg and nearby Mosel and Ruwer vineyards. The nose is shy, but the palate is vividly juicy, projecting green apple, white peach and pale yellow plum. The bright freshness is mouthwatering, bound up in the fruit of this light-bodied wine. It has a thrilling 10 g/L of acidity and 6 g/L of residual sweetness.” – Anne Kreibiehl MW (Dec 2024)
