About the winery:

The Veglio family has been dedicated to working the land for generations. Since the beginning of the 1900s in the village of Ciotto near La Morra, they have been cultivating vines, orchards & gardens, and raising livestock. Today, the winery produces 100,000 bottles from about 23 hectares of vineyards distributed throughout La Morra and
Monforte d’Alba. The family believes in making balanced wines, respecting the land and its characteristics of origin, with attentive work in the vineyard and just as much care taken in the cellars.

Notes from the Winemaker:

The Rocche dell'Annunziata are certainly one of the most sought-after Geographical Mentions of La Morra. A rather homogeneous cru, mainly exposed to the south-east, between La Morra and the hamlet of Annunziata. Here we own a small plot, which gives rise to our Riserva: a broad-spectrum Barolo, in which the characteristic elegance of La Morra is accompanied by a good complexity and structure.

Characteristic of the soil is the presence of crushed stone (hence the name "Rocche") which drains water well. Le Rocche give Barolo with soft tannins, more concentrated wines with intense hints of fruit, always balanced and elegant.

Grape variety: 100% Nebbiolo

Year of planting: 1980s.

Type of training: guyot

Vinification: maceration with the skins in temperature-controlled steel tanks for 20 days. During this period there was a very soft extraction accompanied by daily pumping over. After racking, malolactic fermentation took place in steel tanks. Subsequently, the wine was passed into barriques, 30% new and 70% second and third passage, where it rested for a total of 24 months. After decanting in stainless steel tanks, the wine was bottled for a further refinement of over two and a half years.

Tasting Notes:

Colour: ruby of good intensity and light garnet notes.

Bouquet: penetrating and enveloping with a great aromatic boost, where the classic red fruits are dominated by notes of cut flowers, hay and sweet spices.

Taste: structured and noble, vigor and fullness are accompanied by sapidity and minerality. The excellent terroir and particular microclimate give it a unique complexity.

Serving temperature: 16°-18°. It is pleasant to experience the evolution of the aromas as the wine warms up in the glass.

Evolution: admittedly austere, where the soft and sweet notes grow over time, giving great complexity and enjoyment, as well as remarkable longevity.

Ratings & Reviews

97 Points - James Suckling:

"Quite classic with energetic prunes, dried cherries, dried flowers, tar and licorice, as well as subtle blood-orange vibrancy. Full-bodied, emphasizing superripe, elegant tannins that are extracted and powerful yet finely woven, all enhanced by refreshing acidity. Long bergamot aftertaste. Drink or hold. " - JS (Feb 2026)

95 Points - Vinous Media:

"The 2020 Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata is a gorgeous wine that shows the new style here. Crushed flowers, cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, licorice and leather all meld together. This mid-weight, pliant La Morra Barolo is pure and total sensuality. The move towards greater freshness and a lighter hand with oak has paid off handsomely." - Antonio Galloni (Jan 2026)
