Vintage and Climate:
The climate year of 2022 will be remembered as very warm and dry, with temperatures above the average of recent years from May and throughout the summer. The lack of rainfall is also notable. Although the grateful storms in July helped stop the heat stroke, the lack of water became evident. Despite these conditions, the vines showed a firm resistance to water stress, and marked drought only in the basal leaves of the most suffered vineyards, but kept the fruit in perfect condition. With maturity but also with acidity! A year to verify how resilient the Priorat vineyard is!
Elaboration and Ageing:
Grapes are hand-harvested. Rigorous second and third hand-selection at the winery sorting table. Alcoholic and malolactic fermentation of gently destemmed grapes in stainless steel tanks.
Ageing of 4 to 6 months in a combination of concrete tank (25%), large oak vats (25%) and used French oak barrels (50%).
Alcohol: 14,5%
Ratings & Reviews
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
The red 2022 Les Crestes has a more commercial approach, with some creamy notes from the élevage and the warmth of the vintage. It matured in a combination of oak foudres, concrete eggs and used barriques for four to six months. It's a blend of 80% Garnacha and 10% each Cariñena and Syrah from llicorella slate and clay and limestone soils with good ripeness and a Mediterranean profile of aromatic herbs. It has 14.5% alcohol and a juicy palate with very good freshness and very supple flavors of ripe berries and dark spices.
91 Points - Vinous:
The 2022 Les Crestes is 80% Grenache, 10% Carignan and 10% Syrah, sourced from Poboleda in Priorat. Seventy percent of the wine underwent six months of aging in oak barrels and foudres", while the remaining portion was kept in concrete vats. Garnet in hue, the fruit-forward nose features crushed plums and pomegranate notes. Dry, taut and compact on the palate, the oak makes for a smooth texture, while the juicy flow leads to a lasting, flavorful finish. This is a savory Priorat.
