About This Wine:
The Maculan Fratta appeals to an inner hedonist. The wine is made from 65% Cabernet Sauvignon and 35% Merlot grown in estate vineyards around Breganze, a charming Venetian wine village located along the foothills of the Dolomites. Fermented in stainless steel and then aged for one year new in French oak barriques, the Fratta is bottled unfined and unfiltered to preserve its beautiful profile, which has become legendary among connoisseurs.
Tasting Notes:
Deep ruby red in color, Fratta offers intense aromas of blackberries and black plums, with notes of coffee, mocha, cocoa, and sweet tobacco. With a balanced expression of fine-grained tannins and full-bodied elegance, this truly opulent red wine unfolds into a long, unforgettable finish.
Food Pairing:
Pair this special wine with an equally special dish – Beef Wellington – or with aged hard cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano and Pecorino Romano.
Technical Data:
Varietal composition: 65% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot
Length of aging before bottling: 12 months
Type of oak: French
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - James Suckling:
"A pretty, chewy red with a perfumed fruit character including strawberry. Medium to full body with firm, silky tannins and a fresh, delicious finish. Chocolate undertones with hints of walnuts. A blend of cabernet sauvignon and merlot. Drink or hold." - (November 17, 2015)
89 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"A savory red, with aromatic dried herb and bresaola notes lacing the baked plum, dried cherry, licorice and fresh earth flavors. Well-knit, with fine tannins that firm the finish. Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. Drink now through 2022. 600 cases made." – AN (Web Only - 2016)
