About the Winery:
Lodali, considered a historic winery in the Le Langhe, was first founded in 1939 by grandfather Giovanni Lodali, who began making his own wine to serve in his local restaurant. Later, he built a home and large cellar on his property to begin bottling and selling the wine, which was well received by the Osteria diners. After earning a degree in enology, his son Lorenzo (Walter’s father) and his very charismatic wife Rita joined the team, commercializing their first Barbaresco and Barolo Selections in 1958. After Lorenzo passed away, Rita took over concentrating her efforts on creating wines full of typicity and Langhe charm. The current owner Walter followed in his father’s footsteps, graduating from his alma mater and taking over the reins from his mother who stayed on board to lend a hand. As his first order of business, Walter added his personal touch to the wines by perfecting every stage of the winemaking process and renovating the cellars, breathing new life into the winery.

About this Wine:
100% Nebbiolo. Rich and bright garnet red. Ample and persistent nose with notes of ripe red berries. Harmonious on the palate with great structure, full body and length.

A great wine for important dishes, red meats roasted on a spit or grilled, game, dishes of gourmet white and red meats and ripe cheeses. Garnet red. Fragrant with notes of licorice and tobacco. Full and elegant flavor.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Walter Lodali has renovated his boutique winery and produces precise wines not without complexity. Floral on the nose with hints of rose blossom, redcurrants and tar. On the palate, it is delicately refreshing with dusty but ripe, extracted tannins thanks to submerged cap maceration.” - Aldo Fiordelli (Mar 2024)

94 Points - Ian d'Agata:
Good bright red. Very sweet and precise aromas and flavours of suave red cherries, spicy herbs, minty tobacco and minerals. A note of blood orange and candied violet add further interest. Finishes long and savoury, with good spicy cut and excellent clarity.

93 Points - Vinous:
The 2020 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is gorgeous. Vibrant and medium in body, with captivating inner perfume, the 2020 is pure sensuality. Hard candy, rose petal, mint and orange peel are some of the notes that open in this silky, mid-weight Barolo. The 2020 is all class. It was fermented in cement and aged in cask for two years. 2024-2036.

92 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"A youthful medium ruby red color, the 2020 Barolo Bricco Ambrogio is savory and spicy with notes of sour cherries, tangy orange peel, burnt orange peel, clove, saline, and menthol. Medium-bodied, it displays an elegant profile on the palate, with ripe tannins, a velvety texture, and an approachable feel, and it retains nice freshness without being austere. Drink 2025-2035.” – Audrey Frick (May 2024)

91 Points - James Suckling:
"Aromas of ripe red berry, mild spices, dried flowers and nutmeg on the nose. Medium-bodied, sleek and juicy, with a dusty texture to its tannins and a saline undertone. Better after three to four years.” (May 2024)

91 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"The nose is reserved, with hidden depths of dark cherry and plum waiting to be unveiled, gradually peeking out from behind a veil of vanilla and baking spices. On the palate, the wine is initially soft and rounded before the ripe, structured tannins make their presence known. Flavors of licorice root, cherry, and blackberry emerge, contributing to the wine's lush and enjoyable youthful character. Drink Now – 2035” - Jeff Porter (Sep 2024)
