About this Domaine:
François Legras was born into a family with four centuries of grape growing experience in Chouilly and by age 16 was learning the skills of vine-grower and cellar-master from his father. François went on to marry Brigitte Legras, née Haas, and Champagne Legras & Haas was established in 1991. Today it is run by their three sons, Olivier, Rémi and Jérôme.

The Legras-Haas family cultivates 19 hectares of vines, comprised of 32 parcels, throughout the village of Chouilly, which offers an extraordinary diversity of chardonnay styles. The family owns additional vineyard properties in Vitry (southeast of the Côte des Blancs), Les Riceys in the Côte des Bar, Épernay and Chavot. In total the family farms over 38 hectares in these outstanding terroirs.

About this Champagne:
A Legras and Haas vintage reflects both the year and the place as it’s a single cru, estate-grown wine. To become a vintage wine, the year must deliver a certain austerity that promises aging potential and a touch of originality, an unusual character that makes it exceptional. While a millésime may come from any of the family’s parcels, most often it is largely comprised of grapes from their plots around Mont Aigu, which has an older chalk layer and delivers intensity, elegance, freshness and minerality in the finished wine.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - James Suckling:
"A very classy blanc de blancs with sliced cooked-apple and lemon-rind aromas and flavors. Some candied lemons as well. Full-bodied with layers of fruit and a tangy undertone to the flavor and intensity. Disgorged in April 2022. Dosage 6g/L. Drink now." (Jun 2022)

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Moving over to the vintage wines, the 2015 Champagne Vintage Brut was released last year, before the 2014. Tasting the two vintages side by side, I don’t think I gave this wine enough credit in my tasting last year. Pouring a rich straw hue, it’s lush and expressive on opening, with layered notes of custard, lemon curd, ripe peach, fresh berries, and croissant. Full and expanding on the palate, it fills it with a fluffy mousse and a floral perfume that floats across the palate and through the finish, with a ripe, pithy texture. It has a long finish and a bit of grippy structure, but it should age quite nicely as it takes on classic tertiary aromas and character. It is approachable in its fruit now but has the tannic structure to do well with more years in bottle. Drink 2025-2035. 5.4 grams per liter dosage. - Audrey Frick (Dec 2025)

92 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"With long bottle aging on the lees, the Champagne has good maturity. Toast and yeast flavors embrace the white fruits that bring weight to the wine. Drink now." - Roger Voss (Dec 2023)
