Notes from the Winemaker:
Like all of the vineyard-designated Lea Pinot Noir’s, this wine is sourced from the renowned Sta. Rita Hills appellation. Known for its fog-influenced mornings and cooler temperatures, Sta. Rita Hills is considered an ideal growing climate for Pinot. The Buona Terra Pinot is particularly Burgundian in style, showing bright acidity and snappy red fruits as well as a lifted, almost floral nose. This wine pairs beautifully with dishes of all types – fish, chicken or beef - and shows a long, complex finish. Drink this Pinot Noir now or age it over the next 5 to 7 years.
Ratings & Reviews
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
Located in the warm, eastern side of the Sta. Rita Hills, and on a south-facing plot, the 2013 Pinot Noir Buona Terra Vineyard is a medium-bodied, chewy and slightly rustic effort that gives up plenty of sweet and sour cherries, violets, damp underbrush and hints of game. It has juicy acidity, and stays nicely balanced on the palate with a clean, focused finish. It will drink nicely through 2020.
Made by Jennifer Lea Tensley, these are first-rate Pinot Noirs (and a Chardonnay) that have singular, individual characters. They don’t skimp on fruit or texture, yet they also have plenty of earthy, savory characteristics to go with that core of sweet fruit that California provides. In addition, they represent superb values!" - Jeb Dunnuck (Aug 2014)
