A MELLOWER EXPRESSION OF OUR FAMOUS ISLAY SCOTCH, SLOWLY AGED IN EX-BOURBON BARRELS.

The additional years spent resting in American oak lends notes of leather and vanilla, which complement the signature rich and smoky flavors that Laphroaig whisky is famous for. A perfect example of how our peated whisky ages and matures over time, this dram is an ideal choice for the long evenings of late summer as they transition into the cozy nights of fall.

Laphroaig 16 is made to a time-honored process, which starts with malted barley slowly dried and toasted over a fire fuelled by the Isle of Islay's native peat. It's then mixed with the clean, cool waters of the Kilbride stream before being distilled. The spirit is poured into our ex-Bourbon barrels β€” gently charred inside for a stronger flavor β€” and then left to mature in our warehouse on the rugged shores of the Atlantic Ocean.

TASTING NOTES

  • COLOUR: Deep copper
  • NOSE: Sweet leather, oaky spices, vanilla and wood character with gorse flowers and heather fragrance, roasted chestnuts with rich maple syrup, a touch of black pepper.
  • FINISH: Long lasting, smoky,sweet and salted seaweed, medicinal character.
  • PALATE: Sweet with treacle and caramel, Manuka honey and thyme but also intense wood smoke, creosote, lots of floral notes of heather and bergamot, and a chili mouthfeel.

This expression has been matured entirely in first-fill bourbon casks. The nose offers lemon juice squeezed onto hot baked salmon, cooked over a wood fire, then sprinkled with sea salt. Rich, sweet, tropical fruit flavors on the full palate, with honey, barley sugar, peppery oak, and mellow peat smoke. Dark chocolate, dry peat, and black pepper in the long, mildly medicinal finish.Β
