About the Maison:
The House of Lanson makes the difficult choice to declare vintages only in years that can truly be considered exceptional. 1904,1928,1955,1971,1976,1983 and 1990 are great Vintages that have gradually built the reputation of Champagne Lanson. Nowadays, Lanson is particularly famous for its collection of Vintage Champagnes.

About the Champagne:

Le Black Réserve is the result of a precise matching of different plots from the best parcels of the year's harvest. Given the emphasis on reserve wines aged in oak casks, some of which are over 10 years old, it boasts an intricate full-bodied experience.
Le Black Réserve matures at least 5 years in Cellars to develop a subtle combination of complexity and richness.

Ratings & Reviews

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"The 2009 Champagne Le Vintage feels sunny and is expressive of the even warmer vintage, with ripe yellow apple, red plum, and crushed stone. It is fleshy and round though it still retains acidity and has notes of chamomile and melon, with a bit of phenolic grip on the finish. Though ripe, it is balanced and drinking well at this stage and over the next 15 years.<!--more-->Cellar master Hervé Dantan took over in 2013 and is the third generation in his family of winegrowers. In addition to working and studying in Champagne, Mr. Dantan also spent time in Burgundy and at Gloria Ferrer in Sonoma. Historically, the winery entirely blocked malolactic fermentation, but they are no longer dogmatic about it, although they continue to strive for a crispy style. Since Hervé’s arrival, they have worked to create a vineyard team and are moving to becoming certified sustainable and using organic practices whenever possible. They work with 400 different partners in the vineyards. The vineyard La Clos de Lanson in Reims is the only urban clos in the region and is a single hectare planted to Chardonnay. It is the only parcel that is fermented in barrel, and the latest release is the 2007 vintage. The vintage bottlings are produced from Grand Cru and Premier Cru sites, with the prestige cuvées consisting of entirely Grand Cru. Structural developments include a barrel room built in 2015 and a new press house in Verzenay that opened last year. The press house is also the home of a new future clos currently of young vines facing the landmark windmill of the village. (Drink between 2022-2037)" - Audrey Frick (Nov 2022)

93 Points - James Suckling:

"A rich, round Champagne with lots of ripeness and density. Very round and creamy. It’s full and layered with pretty bread dough and softness. Just a hint of freshness at the end. Drink now." - JS (Feb 2021)

93 Points - Decanter Magazine:

"Elegant aromas of baked apples, dried citrus peel, biscuit crunch and some cream. Lovely freshness on the palate, showing a fine mousse." - Simon Field MW (Sept 2021)
