Notes about Whiskey:

The Watt Family of Donegal and Derry in Ireland's North West owned one of Ireland's largest whiskey distilleries in the 19th century. When their family owned racehorse Tyrconnell named after an ancient kingdom in that part of Ireland one a major horse race at odds of 100 to 1, the family celebrated the famous victory by creating a whiskey brand in the colt's honour. This original Tyrconnell Irish Whiskey went on to become one of Irish Whiskey's greatest export successes, especially in the US where it was the most popular Irish Whiskey on the market in the 1920s. Prohibition and other factors killed the old Irish Whiskey industry and the old Tyrconnell brand. However, it was one of the first brands to be recreated by Dr. John Teeling when he rebuilt the Cooley Distillery in Ireland some years ago.

Today, Tyrconnell 10 Year Old Single Irish Malt is one of Ireland's most popular Single Malt whiskeys. This Port finished expression is one of Cooley's Wood Finishes collection and is finished in Port casks. Tyrconnell Single Malt Port Cask Finish Whiskey is double-barreled, or finished, in used port casks, where it rests for another six to eight months. The port casks add complexity to the whiskey, and provide it with notes of cherries, stone fruits and dark chocolate. Tyrconnell Single Malt Irish Whiskey Port Cask Finish earned a score of 92 points from Whisky Advocate and earned the Gold Medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition in 2011.
