Distillery Notes:
A blended whisky born from the pursuit of balance, finished brilliantly with the spring water of Mount Daisen. You can cleanly savor the natural fragrance of the bourbon barrel.
Founded in 1910, Matsui Shuzo is located in the Tottori Prefecture, Northwest of Kyoto and Northeast of Hiroshima, on the shore of the Sea of Japan. Matsui Shuzo is known in Japan as both a sake brewery and shochu distillery. While the juice in Kurayoshi is 100% malted barley, the spirits themselves have been sourced from distilleries around Scotland before making their journey to Japan, where they are blended with Japanese-distilled malted barley then aged (3-18 years). The whisky is then proofed down with the famously soft ground waters of Tottori Prefecture.
Awards/Reviews:
92 Points - Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2023
"An elegant and classical whisky, this bottle shows lifted aromas of toasted oats, golden flowers, zested lemon, and warm cereal grains. The palate is delicate and balanced with rich malty flavors deftly balanced by a touch of French vanilla."
Gold - SF World Spirits Competition 2022
91 Points - Intl Wine & Spirits Competition 2021
"Oaky but balanced notes of cinder toffee, coconut and vanilla on the nose. Rich palate of toffee and caramel with gingerbread and cinnamon. Lingering finish of woody spice."
