"This was aged in Japan's rare Mizunara oak for the entirety of its maturation, which includes three-month ocean maturation. Look for a tawny hue and orange peel and spice aromas. The light palate opens with charred oak, burnt orange peel and clove. Adding water brings out more honey, cayenne and cinnamon, plus distant campfire smoke."
90 Points - Whisky Advocate
"Fully matured in mizunara oak on land and sea, this has tangy orange, ground ginger, fennel seed, cedar, and incense, though it seems a little more tightly wound than the standard strength whisky. Juicy orange, quick firecracker spices, and more toffee sweetness; it becomes heavy and thick, flaunting high alcohol, then turns creamier with marzipan, orange Jell-O, and singed oak spices."
"The nose comes across as youthful and slightly sweet — sandalwood, tea leaf, and notes of marshmallow cream. The palate cuts a similar character to the black label, but the extra alcohol gives it significantly more punch. Nutty with notes of banana and vanilla, it layers in wood and meaty character after the initial sweetness fades, lingering on a slight vegetal/umami note on the back end. Surprisingly approachable without any added water." - Drinkhacker
