About the Producer:

The Balvenie DoubleWood is a 12 year old single malt which gains its distinctive character from being matured in two wood types. Over the period of maturation it is transferred from a traditional oak whisky cask to a first fill European oak sherry cask. Each stage lends different qualities to the resulting single malt ~ the traditional casks soften and add character, whilst the sherry wood brings depth and fullness of flavour.

Tasting Notes:

NOSE: Sweet fruit and Oloroso sherry notes, layered with honey and vanilla.

TASTE: Smooth and mellow with beautifully combined flavors ~ nutty sweetness, cinnamon spiciness and a delicately proportioned layer of sherry.

FINISH: Long and Warming

98 Points, Gold - Intl Wine & Spirits Competition 2021

"Pink grapefruit zest and boiled sweets are harmoniously integrated into cooked apples with soft sherry spice and a touch of blackberry cordial. Sweet vanilla with delicate creamy caramel, toffee and chocolate melt into a spicy finish."

93 Pts, Excellent/Highly Recommended - Ultimate Spirits Challenge 2021

"A complex nose shows layers of vanilla cake, honeycomb, fresh leather, and a whiff of baking spice. The palate is indulgent mingling the above flavors in a rich and luxurious package that lingers to a pleasantly warming finish."

94 Points & Top 100 Spirits - Wine Enthusiast
"Silky and downright succulent, this Scotch is made with two types of oak casks—as the DoubleWood name suggests—but it's really all about the influence of the ex-Sherry cask. Aromas suggest golden raisins and dried apricots. The silky palate starts out moderately smoky, but glides into a richer, honeyed, nutty profile that finishes with cocoa and clove accents."

91 Points - Whisky Advocate
"Balvenie’s classic was first launched in 1993. Aged in bourbon barrels for at least 12 years and finished in European oak sherry casks for 9 months, then the individual casks are transferred to large tuns to marry for 3-4 months. Dry on the nose, with pleasant aromas of citrus and a hint of soapiness and waxiness. Full-flavored on the palate with deep notes of chocolate and brown sugar accented by pepper spice."
