About the Whisky:
Specialty Drinks is an independent bottler that sources single malt from an undisclosed distillery in Islay to bottle under the Port Askaig label. This peaty expression, at 8 years old, is the youngest in their lineup and is bottled at 45.8%

Tasting Notes:

A soft, sweet peaty character balanced to perfection. Ageing in refill American oak allows the character of the spirit to shine through, making for a gentle, smoky, moreish dram.

Awards/Reviews:

"This one has some swagger in the glass. On the nose, smoke, with sweeter, citrus-forward notes including burnt brown sugar, apple, honey, and lemon peel behind it. A bit of oatmeal. A slightly charred apple pie. The palate is unmistakably Islay: straightforwardly mineral-rich and peaty, with slight, pleasant notes of citrus and burnt honey that follow logically from the nose. The smoke is not heavy, per se, but it is obvious. For a beverage that shows off a bit in the glass, it’s honest and straightforward in the mouth. It’s quite balanced." - The Whiskey Reviewer

"It is probably the sweetest (peated) Islay whisky I have ever tasted. But it is perfection! The sweetness is a perfect match for my sweeter palate. It is perfectly balanced with salt and earthiness that do not allow the sweetness to overwhelm. If I look back over this past year or two, the Port Askaig 8 yo whisky is the nicest Islay dram I have tasted in quite a while."

"This addition to the Port Askaig range is presented with natural color, without chill filtration, and matured in refill American oak casks. The nose presents light peat, ozone, and faint medicinal notes, becoming saltier and spicier with time. Bracing. Woodsmoke, kippers, grapefruit, and lime on the palate. The finish is sweet, with receding smoke."           - Whisky Advocate
