Notes from the Winemaker:
70% Furmint and 30% Harslevelu. The region’s crown jewel, Kiralyudvar (Kee-RYE-oohd-var), which for centuries had supplied Imperial wine to the Hapsburgs. The estate has prime holdings in the historical crus of Henye, Percze, Becsek, and the grand cru Lapis, all in the central villages of Mad and Bodrogkeresztur. The Lapis vineyard is one of Tokaji’s Grand Cru vineyards sites, known for its high elevation and volcanic soils. This sumptuous dessert wine is only produced in exceptional years and rivals the great wines of Sauternes with its complex botrytis characters and opulent flavor profile.
Ratings and Reviews
19/20 Points - Jancis Robinson:"Lapis is one of Tokaj's grand cru vineyards. Harvested at 35 Brix. RS 215 g/l.
The colour of peach jam. Heady, glorious aromas: pecans dripping in baked-orange syrup, rye toast and hops, fig jam and hay. Sometimes, words fail. I find myself wondering if there is any point in trying to describe a wine that defies description. ‘Intense’ doesn’t come anywhere near the nervous-but-exquisite energy and penetration of this wine. ‘Piercing’ doesn’t really describe the electric volt of flavours that shudder through your body. ‘Luscious’ or any of the other sweetness descriptors don’t describe the fierceness of the sweetness. It’s too complex, and literally too beautiful for words." (Apr 2020)
