Notes from the Winemaker:
In 1984, Joseph Helfrich, an artist-entrepreneur, designed a bottle with a revolutionary shape. The bottle, christened Joséphine, was distinguished by its original curves: a slanted neck and a generous body. It was a real challenge at the time, even needing its own production chain!
The winery was originally named JP Chanel for Jean-Paul Chanel but was renamed to Chenet when introduced commercially. Their sparkling wine was first produced in 2004 and fruit is sourced from literally thousands of growers.
Terroir & Vinification From vineyards slightly under clay-limestone soils, the grapes are harvested at fair ripeness and in partially manual work. The steps for winemaking happens under low temperatures to keep all potential of freshness from the wines.
Elaboration: The base wines are perfectly fitted for the key step of the sparkling process: fresh, lively and of a unique aromatic refinement, they are crafted into our cellar of Landiras near Bordeaux, following a technique invented in 1907 by French engineer Eugène Charmat.
Tasting Notes: Fresh and refined with a good persistence, with fruity aromas of white peach and apricot. The flavors are of red apples and citrus fruit, a very clean and bright finish. Drink it alone, with appetizers, shellfish, fried chicken, even popcorn.
