About the Wine:
- Gevrey-Chambertin, a large wine-producing village in the Northern part of Côte de Nuits, has one of the greatest areas covered by vines in the whole of Côte d’Or.
- The soil is chalky, with a good covering layer of clayey marl which gives the wines their strength and roundness.
- Lying on a gentle slope, the vineyards are planted between 240 and 280 meters above sea level (720 to 840 feet).
- Gevrey-Chambertin can only be a red wine, with Pinot Noir the only grape variety.
TASTING NOTES:
“Gevrey-Chambertin is a wine with a beautiful, bright ruby color. Intensely fruity on the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of black cherry, wild blackberry and licorice. The woody character is subtle and marries delicately with the other aromas. As the wine evolves, there are more complex notes, such as mild spice, nutmeg and leather. Later still, mushroom and damp earth nuances make their appearance. Although present on the palate, tannin is never astringent but blends itself harmoniously with the natural freshness and “gras” (velvety texture) of the wine. The same aromas encountered earlier on the nose are found again in the aftertaste.” – Véronique Boss-Drouhin
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - James Suckling:
Attractively savory and earthy nose of mushrooms, wet earth, citrus peel and dark cherries. Some smoked paprika spiciness. Medium-bodied, with excellent weight for the vintage. Firm and focused. Drink or hold.
90 Points - Wine Spectator:
Wraps a kernel of ripe cherry, raspberry and earth flavors in a cloak of toasty oak. This red is supple in texture, picking up vegetal and mineral elements as it winds down on the beefy finish. Best from 2026 through 2040. 500 cases imported.
