About the Whiskey:

The newest whiskey in the Bonded Series, Jack Daniel’s Bonded Rye is a Bottled-in-Bond whiskey, which must be distilled by a single distiller during a single distillation season, matured in a government bonded warehouse for at least four years, and bottled at 100 proof.  Barrels are hand-selected for their characteristics of deeper color, flavor, and aroma, which deliver a darker, richer, and more oak-forward character. It’s a big, bold Tennessee Rye Whiskey at 100 proof, every sip is a balance of vanilla, toffee, and rye spice.

Best Rye Whiskeys Of 2023 - Breaking Bourbon

"Peppery spice mixes with crisp fruit scents of pear, apple, and green grapes to form an initial impression that leans a little more towards fruit than it does spice. Bold rye spice meets fresh mint leaves up front. Waves of barrel char, black pepper, and cinnamon follow. Hints of maple sugar candy and molasses add a sweet note. All of these flavors rest on an unusually rich earthy base that is ultimately the principal factor contributing to the whiskey’s uniqueness. The whiskey’s earthy undertone continues into the finish along with persistent rye spice. Sweeter flavors of vanilla custard and burnt brown sugar emerge, transitioning the finish from spicy to sweet as it breaks down on your palate. It’s a great ending to an impressive and memorable sip. A bold, unique tasting, and versatile rye whiskey that celebrates a milestone in American whiskey’s history. It’s not a limited edition, it’s not super high proof, and it doesn’t rely on an age statement to draw attention. But it is accessible, affordable, and helps break new ground when it comes to rye whiskey flavor profiles. Earlier in the year we said it might be one of the most exciting whiskeys of the year, and now we’re confident saying it most certainly is one of the most exciting rye whiskeys of the year, hands down." - Breaking Bourbon

"The nose starts off big with immediate rye spice. It’s warming with cinnamon, cloves, allspice, and a hint of nutmeg. There’s fruit aplenty as well, with a classic note of dried banana. Those aromas are coupled with a faint underlying sweetness, like caramelized sugars from cooked or even charred fruit. The entire nosing experience is a bit like bananas foster with a hefty drizzle of spiced cream. On first sip, that sweetness hits right out on the tip of the tongue, and some bolder-than-expected fruit flavors then move through to the midpalate. There are both dried and stewed fruit elements here: apricots, peaches, and plantains. The spice kicks in later, but not incredibly deeply. The intersection of fruity, sweet, and slightly spicy (even tangy) is reminiscent of gobbling down a handful of Mike and Ike candy. At the finish, spice — more cinnamon and nutmeg — builds even more and starts to dominate. The liquid isn’t leaning into overly hot territory, but it’s certainly showing its 100 proof. There’s a little bit of nuttiness, walnuts specifically, folded in among that spice and heat. A worthy addition that immediately enhances the distillery’s bonded lineup. This release is going to please bartenders and customers alike, both on the rocks and in mixed drinks. And don’t let its competitive pricing fool anyone: This is more than good enough to enjoy neat." - Drinkhacker (A-)
