Notes from the Winemaker:

Winemaker: Thomas Rivers Brown

The lots for Hestan Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon are kept separate throughout winemaking to retain individual block and varietal characters. Small capacity fermentation tanks, carefully timed pump-overs and punch-downs, a mix of native and cultured yeasts, the finest French cooperage and extended aging result in a wine noted for its deep flavor and velvety tannins.

On the nose, cherry pie, bright candied raspberry, cranberry and cassis. The palate opens with notes of baked cherry with a hint of red currant and vanilla. The tannins are supple yet firm. Can age for 12-20 years.

Winemaker Notes

  • 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
  • 3.90 pH
  • 6.3 g/L TA
  • 14.6% alcohol
  • 20 months in 85% new French oak

Tasting Notes:

In the glass the wine displays a nearly opaque purple-ruby hue. On the nose, there are aromas of black currant, blackberry cassis anise, sweet and sour plum with a hint of black and red licorice. The palate opens with ripe plum, graham and brown sugar with blackberries and white pepper notes. The wine is balanced with soft tannins and a med long finish.

Ratings & Reviews

94 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
Super sleek yet densely concentrated, this complex and ageworthy Cabernet is worth an investment. A deep, inky color leads to toasty, dark-chocolatey aromas and saturated blueberry, and cooked black-cherry flavors that are wrapped in layers of fine-grained tannins. Best from 2030–2040.

93 Points - James Suckling:
Currants, brambleberries, dark chocolate, dried violets and tobacco leaves on the nose. It’s full-bodied with firm, polished tannins. Excellent structure, depth and concentration. Try in 2023.
