Heitz's Martha's Vineyard Cabernet is a Napa Valley classic from one of the great decades of Napa Valley history, the 1970s. From a time when Napa Valley had yet to break into the international spotlight, the wines were cryptically tannic upon release, but a '70 vintage Martha's in good condition is the kind of wine that entered this world with a long life ahead of it. It will just keep evolving with much to offer the connoisseur throughout all stages of its life. Expect tell-tale Martha's menthol and cassis aromas and flavors, with excellent flavor concentration and a lingering finish. Don't underestimate the power of good 1970 Napa Cab!

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
A real turn up for the books! This has a noticeable deeper colour compared to the ’74. Lovely, fresh, well defined nose with undergrowth, mint and cedar – wonderful lift and elegance that would embarrass most Clarets from this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied, fresh and vital, great definition with mint, boysenberry, briary and a viscous texture towards the persistent finish. Out performed the supposed “star of the show”, the ’74 on the day. Such is the unpredictability of wine. Marvellous. Tasted May 2009.
