The House of Independent Producers (HIP) is a project directed by Christophe Hedges, focusing on specific vineyard sites, typically from locations within the Columbia Valley AVA. 100% Merlot from the Bacchus Vineyard, Sagemoor Farms.
Extremely drinkable, offering no hint of palate fatigue. Soft with some angularity, focused acid, wildly intoxicating, and picked early for greater vintage precision, yet medium-high PH for smoothness. Coffee, pencil lead, anise, and earth. The 2011 vintage is characteristic of the Bacchus Vineyard, but with more herbal flavors due to the cooler season. An established property, with solid yields, sustainably farmed, make for a wine with typical fine extraction while still possessing elegance and light perfume qualities.
