Vineyard:

Three Jacks Vineyard is a small vineyard in the heart of the Green Valley of Russian River Valley AVA. It is farmed by the Dutton family and has a history with Hartford Family Winery, being bottled as a Designated Vineyard wine from 1999 through 2004. We are excited to have brought it back into our lineup with the 2012 offering.

The vineyard is located on Graton Road next to the Dutton Shop, and is known to most as Triple JS – the name derived from the partnership of the owners – Joe, Juan, Jose and Steve. It was planted in 1995 to 4 clonal selections: old Wente, Rued, Dijon 95 and Clone 15. The name Three Jacks was coined in a barrel tasting with the 1999 vintage and has stuck ever since.

Tasting Notes:
The Three Jacks Vineyard Chardonnay exhibits aromas of lemon curd, orange marmalade, and brioche, with juicy flavors of pear, candied citrus peel, chamomile, and a rich, mineral-driven texture. The wine is full-bodied, weighty, and rich yet remarkably agile on its feet because of firm underlying acidity.

Ratings & Reviews:

96 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"A vibrant and pure Chardonnay with great energy, the medium gold 2021 Chardonnay Three Jacks Vineyard is lifted with flint and dusty earth, as well as lime zest, white pepper, and green apple. Medium-bodied, it has ripe, sweet fruit throughout, and a balanced, fresh feel. Offering remarkable evenness in its balance, with floral notes of white flowers and lemon curd continuing through to its long finish, this is my favorite of the whites in the lineup. Drink 2024-2032." (July 2023)

96 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"A brilliant texture laced with vibrant acidity sets this wine apart. Laser-focused lemon, crisp apple and kiwi flavors meld with light butter, cream and almond notes. Fermented and aged in 31% new French barrels, the wine has complexity and balance that belie its full body."

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"From vines planted in 1995, the 2021 Chardonnay Three Jacks Vineyard was barrel fermented and matured for 14 months in 31% new French oak. It has detailed aromas of lemon confit, honeysuckle, oyster shell and crème fraîche. The palate is so dynamic! It has a luxuriously satiny texture and surprisingly concentrated flavors that range from lemon to honey and ginger. It’s structured by lightning-like acidity and has a very long, mineral-driven finish. 338 cases were made. 2025-2035." -EB (10/10/24)
