About this wine:

Il Ghizzano is an easy drinking wine, perfect for everyday consumption, but incredibly rich in personality and fruit. There are velvety berry notes on the nose – cherry and blackberry – with hints of warm spice. It is perfect for any occasion, from a light lunch to a festive dinner. An easy match for any number of dishes but pairs particularly well with pizza, pasta Bolognese or Amatriciana and various charcuterie and cheeses. Recommended serving temperature is 18oC / 65 oF.

Harvest & Vinification
Grapes are hand picked and placed into small-aerated crates with a capacity of approximately 20 kg. Following meticulous selection on the sorting table, grapes are destalked. They are not put through a pump, but transferred into small steel carts with a capacity of 0.2 tons. They are “tread” by foot in steel and concrete tanks, as well as wooden vats with a capacity of 3000 l. Only indigenous yeasts are used for both the alcoholic and malo-lactic fermentations. Fermentation is temperature controlled at 28oC and lasts between 7 and 12 days, the cap is plunged by hand and occasionally delestage is employed. Pumping over is avoided to minimize influencing the must with pumps. The Il Ghizzano is aged several months prior to release.

Ratings & Reviews

89 Points - Antonio Galloni:
"The 2013 Il Ghizzano is a soft, open-knit wine to enjoy in its youth, while the flavors remain fresh. Crushed flowers, cherries, licorice and menthol open up effortlessly. Hopefully the gracious, polished Ghizzano is a sign of things to come in the estate's flagship 2013s." - Antonio Galloni (July 2015)
