ABOUT THE WINERY:
First constructed as the Larkmead Winery in 1884, the building was refinished with native sandstone from the nearby hills in 1906 and still stands tall today. Owner Richard Frank produces Chardonnay, Zinfandel, Sangiovese and several distinctly different Cabernet Sauvignons from various sites. The Zinfandel comes from the Brown Vineyards in the Chiles Valley while their Napa Carneros Vineyards produce some of the finest Chardonnay available.
TASTING NOTES:
This lively expression of Zinfandel offers aromas of dark plum, raspberry coulis, and sandalwood on the nose. On the palate, flavors of baked strawberry, dried herbs, and ground pepper commingle, while ripe, firm tannins and fine acidity frame and lift the wine into a long, unending finish.

Zinfandel is foundational to California’s viticultural heritage. This bright and bountiful grape has thrived in the Golden State since the 1880s, and while it has waned in popularity as Napa Valley continues to evolve and become more Cabernet-centric, Frank Family is honored to champion this beautiful grape and its iconic legacy
This Napa Valley designate is primarily cultivated from our estate S&J Vineyard in Capell Valley, 206 acres located east of the Vaca AGING Mountain range in the Napa Valley AVA. It is planted to 58 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, along with 9 acres of Petite Sirah, and 9 acres of Zinfandel. The soils are fertile, well-draining, and clay loam-based, reminiscent of the Rutherford Bench. Along with S&J, grapes from neighboring vineyards in Chiles Valley (Sunseri Vineyard), Calistoga, and St. Helena complete the blend.

"Fresh, vibrant and spicy, with plenty of tension and pure fruit. The palate is refined and textured, with polished tannins and a lovely fruit-driven finish supported by underlying floral notes. Lots of generosity and a refined structure. Made from 90% zinfandel and 10% petit sirah. Drink or hold." (Dec 2025)
