About the Winery:
Raimat has over a century of history behind it, being the driving winery of the D.O. Costers del Segre. The history of Raimat dates back to 1914, when Manuel Raventós i Domènech acquired some arid and infertile land in a unique setting, to transform it into what today consists of 3,000 hectares of 100% certified organic vineyards. Raimat is the expression of the wines of Lleida, a region recognized for the quality of its fruit, where the continentality of its climate allows the grapes from this estate to produce intense and flavorful wines.
In Raimat, there is careful work to maintain the balance between the environment and the activities being carried out. The impact on the land is reduced by integrating all resources into production, minimizing waste creation, sorting it, and recycling it. Maintaining the natural balance is the essence of Raimat. Both in the winery and in the vineyards, various systems are implemented to advance towards energy efficiency and to minimize the carbon footprint as much as possible, with a focus on a 100% organic production model. Innovation and experimentation are dedicated to achieving excellence: the wine is of the highest quality and faithfully expresses the territory from which it comes.
Raimat has 2,245 hectares of organically certified vineyards, where a wide variety of grape varieties are carefully cultivated: among white grapes, the main and most iconic is Chardonnay, followed by Xarel·lo, and other minor ones like Garnacha Blanca, Sauvignon Blanc, or Albariño; among red grapes, Cabernet Sauvignon is the flagship, and to a lesser extent, Tempranillo, Garnacha, or Merlot.
About this Wine:
The Albariño grapes come from two vineyards that are harvested separately when each one is perfectly ripe. The fermentations take place using selected yeasts. Each component is fermented in a different way to create texture and complexity. The coolest parcel is fermented at a low temperature to obtain the citrus element. The creamy texture comes from lees-fermentations and daily battonage. To achieve greater complexity, a small percentage of Albariño aged for more than ten months in barrel is used. The wine is kept in the optimum conditions until the moment it is stabilized, filtered and bottled.
Tasting Notes:
Bright, straw yellow with green highlights. Great aromatic complexity; aromas of citrus —lime and grapefruit — at the start. As the wine opens up, notes appear of stone fruits, such as nectarine, and subtle hints of white flowers on a mineral background. A broad, exhilarating wine, full of texture and continental character. A refreshing sensation at the start, it is then more voluminous on the midpalate, with a long, invigorating finish. The notes that we find on the nose are repeated at various points on its journey through the palate. Firstly, the citrus notes appear. On the mid-palate, pleasantly bitter notes of grapefruit, and finally, white flowers.
Ratings & Reviews
James Suckling:
"Sliced green apples, grapefruit, brine and petrol on the nose. The palate is medium-bodied and fresh, with a salty profile and a clean finish. Pleasant and approachable. From organically grown grapes. Vegan." (Feb 2025)
