About the Wine:
Lamole is a forgotten corner of Chianti, located high above Panzano. Some parcels of old Sangiovese, grown as sapling, survived the decimation of replanting in the early 1970s. It is from these old vines, planted in the 1920s, that Giovanni Manetti di Fontodi took the cuttings to propagate his clones and replant his vineyards in Fontodi. It is partly from these old vines that the quality and intensity of Fontodi derives.

Giovanni had long cherished the dream of producing a wine in Lamole , considering it one of the most distinctive areas of Chianti. The hamlet is 620 meters above sea level. The wines come from sandy soils and are fragrant and elegant, the bouquet develops in the cool nights and from the long ripening season at this altitude. Giovanni Manetti convinced his cousin, Lorenzo Socci, to work with him on seven hectares of vineyards on a property called Filetta . Together they restored the vineyard and in 2014 they harvested their first grapes.

Tasting Notes:
The Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is absolutely gorgeous. In 2017, the Filetta di Lamole has a bit more body than usual because of the warmth of the year, and yet it retains its classic sense of energy and mid-weight structure. Crushed red berry, spice, mint, licorice and rose petal all open up in this super-expressive, inviting Chianti Classico.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - James Suckling:
"Complex aromas of sweet berries, tobacco and mushrooms with some floral undertones. Full-bodied with very tight, polished tannins and cedar, mahogany and dark fruit on the finish. Lots of transparent fruit at the end. From organically grown grapes. Drink or hold." (Jun 2021)

92 Points - Vinous:
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is pliant and super-expressive. In this vintage, the Lamole has a touch more textural richness than in the past, which is quite inviting. Dark cherry, plum, spice and lavender build into silky, perfumed finish. The 2018 spent 18 months in cask. It's a gorgeous effort from the Manetti family. 2023-2038." -Antonio Galloni (9/21)
