Tasting Notes:

This fine-spun Pinot Noir opens with fresh aromas of coastal evergreens and wildflowers. Hints of early-season cherries follow, macerated in warm spices (anise, cardamom, allspice) and layered over earthy sandalwood. Ripe yet tangy dark berries, wearing a little dust from the patch, star on a lightly textured palate, giving way to savory herbs, delicately tannic red tea, and a pop of salty sea beans. A fascinating play of light fruit and dark spice is finished with a bright squeeze of orange peel.

Vintage:
The winter leading into 2022 combined less-than-average rainfall with higher-than-average temperatures, pushing our earliest bud break on record and yielding smaller clusters, and potential crop loads. April turned cold, and intermittent drizzle as the fruit set lowered yields a bit further. Mild summer temperatures followed, moderating earlier variations, until early September presented a vivid time stamp-a heat spell beginning Labor Day weekend that maintained daytime temperatures well over 100° for seven days. We fared well, as the majority of grapes had already been picked in anticipation of the heat, and the rest was scheduled to come in quickly. The resulting wines have gentle acids produced by a warm end to the growing season, yet they' re refreshingly elegant, lighter-bodied, and finely textured-unmistakably 2022 but quintessential Sonoma Coast.

Vineyard:
Our Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir is sourced from our organically framed estate vineyard, Sea View Ridge, as well as several family-owned vineyards that share our farming philosophy and commitment to highlighting the purity of these coastal sites. The wine reflects the unique characteristics of our estates: coastal influence topography, and distinctive soils.

Ratings & Reviews:

93 Points - James Suckling:
"A fresh yet structured pinot with dried strawberry, orange peel and light caramel with dried stems. Medium body, flavorful, firm and bright at the end. Savory. Drink now." (Nov 2023)

93 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
"Aromas of sweet berries, cherry liqueur and cola dominate the nose of this Pinot, while the palate is loaded with cedar cigar box, coffee and maraschino cherry. The combination of freshness and grip feels very alluring, but it might need a few years to round into form." - T.R.C. (July 2023)

93 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:
"Ripe ruby/red in color, the 2022 Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast is ripe and spicy, with aromas of cherries, cinnamon, beet root, and incense. Medium-bodied, it has a weightless feel, a chalky, fine-grained texture, and a spicy finish with notes of gravelly earth. It floats away on the palate and will have a wide drinking window over the next 7-8 years." - Audrey Frick (June 2024)

92 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"Delicious, fresh, and savoury, this juicy Pinot Noir from the Sonoma Coast has violet and smoky flint aromatics buoyed by fresh red berries and a kiss of fresh mint. The palate is reflective, with flinty minerality coming to the fore. Pine sap, notes of fresh evergreen and lovely red fruits, clove and white peppery spice to finish." - CP (Oct 2023)
