About the Winery:
This vintage is harmonious and balanced, with incredible fruit concentration, structure and depth. Deep and sinuous, this Pinot is fully engaging with expressive aromatics of dark red berries, black cherry, red currant and cranberry alongside subtle hints of spice from the well-integrated oak and freshly turned earth minerality. On the palate, the fruit is bright and inviting with jubilant red berries interwoven with hints of hibiscus flowers and warm baking spices. Elegantly balanced with mouthwatering acidity and minerality notes, the wine finishes with a lingering savory-ness and persistent length, delivering more layers and complexity as its enjoyed now and for the years to come.
Ratings & Reviews
93 Points - Vinous:
"The 2018 Pinot Noir Fiddlestix is rich, deep and so expressive. Dark red cherry, red plum, pipe tobacco, spice and lavender infuse the 2018 with striking depth. Low yields give the 2018 a bit more body and creaminess than I remember seeing in the past, along with more fruit depth and fewer of the wilder / gamier qualities that can be distracting. This is one of the best Fiddlestix Pinots I have tasted from Etude. Drink 2021-2030."
92 Points - James Suckling:
“Purity and beauty to this, offering cherries and bright strawberries with watermelon undertones. It’s medium-bodied with refined tannins and a fresh finish. Vivid. Drink or hold.”
92 Points - Wine & Spirits:
“This wine is exceedingly well built with a cinnamon oak frame, a dark cherry scent and flavors to match. Its texture is seductive, seamless and suave. While it doesn’t seem to come from any one place, it’s delicious and polished, a wine to decant and serve with duck breast.”
90 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Coming from Sta. Rita Hills, the 2018 Pinot Noir Fiddlestix Vineyard was aged for 12 months in French oak, 25% new. Medium ruby-puepl colored, it needs a little coaxing to reveal elegant notions of tilled soil, underbrush and wild mushrooms over a core of kirsch, wild strawberries and thyme. The medium-bodied palate delivers refreshing herb-laced red berry flavors with a light chewiness to the texture and a fragrant finish. 2,400 cases were made."
90 Points - Wine Enthusiast:
“Zesty raspberry aromas meet with wet wood and a light touch of licorice on the nose of this single-vineyard expression. The palate combines dried herbs with soft cranberry and mulberry flavors." -MATT KETTMANN (11/1/20)
