About the Whiskey:
The distillery's award-winning Straight Rye Whiskey imbued with even more flavor. Once fully matured, we finish Toasted Rye in a second, custom-toasted new oak barrel; adding a balanced layer of sweet oak complexity.

While the finishing process for Toasted Rye is similar to our Toasted Barrel Bourbon, the
difference lies in the mashbill. It’s 51% rye grain instead of corn: the legal requirement for this style of American Whiskey.

Mash Bill: 51% Rye, 35% Corn, 14% Barley

Tasting Notes
Color: Burnished copper

Nose: Toasted oak and crème brulee. Almonds and hazelnuts

Palate: Soft, creamy mouthfeel. Milk chocolate with subtle baking spices

Finish: Softly warming with lots of long, drawn-out spices

Awards/Reviews:

Double Platinum - Ascot Awards 2025

"Oak is wonderfully balanced with honey, vanilla and a basket of fruits. Rye spice emerges then shapeshifts into black pepper. A fun and complex rye."

Gold - Intl Spirits Challenge 2025

91 Points - Intl Wine & Spirits Competition 2024

"An inviting bouquet of tobacco and aged oak mingles with the warm rye textures, unfolding into a palate rich with dried fruits and subtle spice bringing complexity and a long finish."

90 Points - Whisky Advocate

"Earthy and moreish, the nose leads with forest floor, spearmint, charred oak, and a prominent pepperiness. The palate is more subdued in terms of spice and is quite fruity with orchard fruit, sweet melons, and zesty lime. As the whiskey evolves, some of the pepperiness returns but never overtakes the bright fruity notes, which continue through the finish, expertly balancing sweetness and spiciness."

"While many ryes whiskeys come across with heavy notes of rye, Elijah Craig Toasted Rye takes a gentler approach. Light rye grain is present, but there’s also a really pleasing sweet fruit punch scent that balances it out. Gentle honey and cinnamon add sweetness, while vanilla cream and oak join in upon further exploration, adding a layer of depth. It’s an effective and really enjoyable way to open the sip. The whiskey becomes more expressive as it moves to the midpoint of the sip, revealing nutmeg, milk chocolate, marshmallow, and vanilla upfront. Diving in deeper teases out notes of summer fruits, toasted oak, and light rye spice. Dabs of brown butter and brown sugar add further intrigue. While the delivery of flavors isn’t intense by any means, overall it’s a nice combination, and the flavors combine to form a pleasing midpoint. The whiskey’s rye underpinnings come to life in the finish, with rye spice popping up front. Oak and leather follow, along with baking chocolate and a white peppercorn note. The flavors fade away, leaving gentle oak and prickly rye spice notes that linger." - Breaking Bourbon
