Notes from the Winemaker:
This release of Doyenne Aix shows complex aromas of violets, fennel seed, wood smoke, blackberries, cassis, iron and white pepper. It is vintage full of flavor that includes diverse berry characteristics, vanilla, espresso and anise. The structure combines the solid core and focus of Cabernet Sauvignon, the rich open spicy fruit of Syrah and the savory, mouthwatering juicy acidity that the 2010 vintage is noted for. Expressing a rich, flavorful and savory nature make it the perfect wine for steaks and other grilled meats.
Ratings & Reviews
91 Points - Vinous:
"(51% syrah, 43% cabernet sauvignon and 6% mourvedre): Bright red. Aromas of blackberry and licorice are complicated by spicy oak and white pepper. Juicy, spicy and penetrating, with lovely intensity to the youthfully tight red berry flavors. Finishes sweet and long, with firm but harmonious tannins." -Stephen Tanzer (Nov/Dec 13)
90 Points - Wine Spectator Magazine:
"Firm tannins surround a juicy core of blackberry, tobacco, tomato leaf and wet stone flavors. A complex and formidable red that needs cellaring to soften the tough texture. Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Mourvèdre. 2,000 cases made." -HS (June 15, 2013)
