About this Wine:
Visionary winemaker Peter Sisseck established his flagship PINGUS Ribera del Duero wine as a benchmark for greatness in Spanish wine, regularly scoring 99-100 points. Pingus is one of the very few Spanish wines that has joined the ranks of the world's most coveted wines. Like Coche-Dury's Corton-Charlemagne, Guigal's single-vineyard Côte Rôties, or Giacomo Conterno's Monfortino, Pingus is known and admired wherever great wine is discussed. According to Vinous Media's Josh Raynolds, "Peter Sisseck’s influence on Ribera del Duero’s worldwide reputation cannot be overstated. His Pingus is now considered to be one of Spain’s and the world’s greatest red wines."

"I missed the bottled 2023 Pingus by a matter of days last year, but the final blend I tasted then is what I also found in bottle now. After a shorter élevage in a year of accumulated drought and heat, the wine has finesse and elegance, perhaps a little less concentrated, and it's textured and super long, with very fine tannins that give it a chalky texture. It has contained ripeness, with around 14% alcohol. The quality of the tannins is amazing—they are super elegant. It does not have the power of the 2022, but it has the finesse. It's still young, but in the long run, the wine should develop very nicely in bottle. This could be like the 1996 and the 2024, more in the style of more powerful years like 1995, 2004 and 2015. It's not quite as fresh as the more Atlantic years, but the place has a stronger voice than the vintage; it's very long and complete. Like other 2023s, the challenge was to avoid the excess power. It's round and seems to be settled and doesn't show heat at all or over-ripeness. Only a handful of vineyards are able to do this in a year like 2023. It's pretty much about texture. "In Ribera del Duero, precision is among the highest virtues, and Pingus remains one of the clearest examples of how precision and elegance can coexist without sacrificing depth. The 2023 Pingus comes from La Horra and was aged for at least one year in used barrels. Subtle reduction, plum, blackberry and a discreet floral nuance shape the nose. With air, fine oak notes emerge, moving between cedar and polished wood. The palate combines plush texture with fine chalky tannins that tighten the wine without compromising its depth. Juicy and layered, it balances richness with remarkable control, reinforcing its sense of shape and proportion. According to Peter Sisseck, Pingus begins to reveal itself after 15 years, and this vintage certainly seems built for the long term.
