About the Winery:
Joseph Matrot (1881-1963), the grandson of owners of a family wine estate in Puligny-Montrachet and Blagny, lived with his wife, Marguerite Amoignon, and their three children at Château d’Evelle. Marguerite also owned a beautiful wine estate in Meursault. In 1914, they took up residence in Marguerite’s family home, which is today the seat of Domaine Matrot, and decided to develop and extend the estate. Over the course of generations, Domaine Matrot continued to expand with the addition of new vineyard holdings, and in 2000 began harvesting the vineyards organically. Today, sisters Adèle and Elsa Matrot are in charge of the management and winemaking of the Domaine, ensuring that the family-run domaine will be in good hands for many years to come. Observing careful cultivation and vinification techniques, Domaine Matrot wines offer purity of fruit and terroir-driven character.

Tasting Notes:
A floral, apple skin nose, and on the palate, very floral and aromatic, too. Lush, ripe Bing cherry on the palate, and strawberry with sugar on top along with blackberry, too. Nice back acids which give the wine a juicy finish.

Ratings & Reviews

92-94 Points - Jasper Morris Inside Burgundy:
Clear mid purple with a scintillating nose, this is a perfect rendition of 2020 red Burgundy at its best. The fruit is ripe but suave and pure, a few strawberry notes coming in, not too much acidity, refined tannins and great length.

91-94 Points - Allen Meadows' BurgHound:
"An ultra-fresh, cool and elegant mix of mostly ripe red berries is nuanced by a plethora of floral elements along with hints of anise and jasmine tea. I very much like the texture of the solidly concentrated medium weight flavors that are suave but nicely delineated on the dusty and chalky finish that displays excellent persistence. This is really very good and the impression of refinement is aided by the dense but fine-grained tannins. One to consider." (Apr 2022)

91 Points - Wine Spectator:
"A supple, elegant red, revealing cherry, black currant, sandalwood, incense and slight smoke aromas and flavors. Vibrant and expressive, with fine harmony and a lingering, spicy aftertaste. Best from 2024 through 2035. 280 cases made, 60 cases imported." - BS (May 2023)

90-92 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2020 Blagny La Piece Sous La Bois 1er Cru is very refined on the nose with perfumed red cherries, crushed strawberry and wild rose petal that blossom in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fleshy red cherries and strawberry, still with some new oak to be assimilated on the finish though that will be soaked up in time. A priori, afford this 3-5 years in bottle before roaching." - Neal Martin (Dec 2021)
