About the Winemaker:
Guy Roulot, a legendary producer of some of the finest Meursaults, if not some of the world's finest white wines, took his family's small production domaine to stardom. Guy's marriage to Genevieve Coche and his own hard work added more prime parcels to the family's holdings, which he vinified and bottled separately - a novelty for a domaine which had been distilling, rather than vinifying, their grapes just a generation before. As a result, Domaine Roulot has become the master of the lieu-dit, not to mention the five premier cru parcels they farm in Meursault and Monthelie. Guy's sudden death in 1982 left the family in transition, as his son, Jean-Marc was in Paris pursuing a career in acting. A series of three winemakers aided in the changeover until 1989, when Jean-Marc was at last ready to take on the direction of the estate.
Ratings & Reviews
92-94 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"Planted in 1956. This is the northern part of the holding only, the southern part on deeper soils enhancing the blended Meursault. The fruit has ripened nicely, stopping just short of honeysuckle. We are back among the more complete expressions of Meursault, with notably more flesh at the back. Excellent balance, very satisfying. Drink from 2029-2034." (Oct 2024)
91-93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Meursault Les Vireuils comes from 80% of the parcel located toward the north on stony, shallow soils. This is fresh on the nose, with sea spray, flint and petrichor scents blossoming in the glass. The palate is well balanced with fine delineation and plenty of energy. It's citrus-driven with superb mineralité on the finish. It is excellent. (Drink between 2025-2045)" - Neal Martin (Jan 2025)
90-93 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"A cooler and more restrained nose is pure and airy while somewhat grudgingly offering up its combination of citrus, green apple and discreet spice and floral hints. There is excellent density and a borderline aggressive minerality to the medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a chalky, youthfully austere and strikingly long finish. This is a seriously impressive Meursault villages where the palate impression is like rolling a tiny pebble around the mouth. If you can find it, buy it. (Drink starting 2031)" (Jun 2025)
90-92 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2023 Meursault Vireuils is showing very nicely, offering up notes of lime zest, white flowers, toasted nuts and wet stones, followed by a medium to full-bodied, satiny and seamless palate that's pure, suave and precise. – William Kelley (Jan 2025)
