About:
Domaine Michel Gros, a prestigious name in Burgundy winemaking, has a rich history spanning several generations. Michel Gros, the sixth generation of winemakers in his family, began his journey in 1978 by inheriting 2 hectares in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits appellation. Over the years, he expanded his holdings, acquiring parcels in Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny, and Morey-Saint-Denis. By 1995, upon his father Jean Gros’s retirement, Michel received significant parcels, including ‘Clos de Vougeot’ and ‘Clos de Réas’. Today, Michel Gros oversees 23 hectares of prime Burgundy land, employing sustainable farming practices and meticulous vineyard management to produce wines that are generous, elegant, and consistently high in quality.
Overview:
This parcel is located next to the family parcel of Richebourg to the north. It is believed that the name originates from the natural vegetation catching fire during the summer months because of the highly drained, dry soil. The soil is very stony with a 30 to 35cm thickness, and the subsoil is made of hard limestone. This wine offers a great minerality; similar to Richebourg from which it is separated only by a 3-meter-wide lane. But the soil, which is not as thick as the Richebourg's, which brings more softness to the tannins and makes it more rapidly accessible. The wine is aged in 50% new oak.
Aromatically the wine is perfumed with a combination of cherries and blueberries, as well as delicately aged purple flowers. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied with brambly berry fruits, peppercorns, and smooth tannins.
Ratings & Reviews
92 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Aux Brûlées 1er Cru has quite an expressive nose, with black cherries, fresh fig and light licorice scents gradually emerging—though its 50% new oak is quite vocal. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, finely balanced with (again) the new oak shaping the mid-palate and finish. There is a good Aux Brûlées here, though you'll have to wait for the oak to be assimilated." - Neil Martin (Oct 2024)
