About the Winery:
Domaine Michel Gros, a prestigious name in Burgundy winemaking, has a rich history spanning several generations. Michel Gros, the sixth generation of winemakers in his family, began his journey in 1978 by inheriting 2 hectares in the Hautes-Côtes de Nuits appellation. Over the years, he expanded his holdings, acquiring parcels in Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny, and Morey-Saint-Denis. By 1995, upon his father Jean Gros’s retirement, Michel received significant parcels, including ‘Clos de Vougeot’ and ‘Clos de Réas’. Today, Michel Gros oversees 23 hectares of prime Burgundy land, employing sustainable farming practices and meticulous vineyard management to produce wines that are generous, elegant, and consistently high in quality.
About this Wine:
The grapes of three parcels compose this cuvée which originate from the vineyards: Aux Réas, Au-Dessus de la Rivière, and La Colombière. All three parcels are located close to the village. Au-Dessus de la Rivière and La Colombière are located upon beds of clay-limestone on Oligocene strata, which are called 'Salmon conglomerates' because of their salmon-pink color. Aux Réas lays on hard limestone soils on Bajocian strata. These marls which are alternated with limestone blocks produce very soft and elegant wines. The wine sees one-third new oak before bottling.
Aromatically the wine has predominate notes of delicately aged violets and brambly, nearly damp red fruits. On the palate, the wine introduces a bit of dark berry fruits alongside the red, with fine-grained tannins and uplighting acidity.
Ratings & Reviews
90-92 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"All destemmed fruit, not yet in bottle, aged with 25% new wood. Lovely perfume with good oak. Up front, pure and delicious, then a slight firmness from the wood to finish. But the sweet cherry and raspberry fruit is impeccable and very long. 13.5% alcohol. Drink from 2028-2032." (Mar 2025)
90 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Vosne-Romanée Village has quite a potent nose of incense and crushed violets that bursts from the glass. Cohesive and poised, this has a medium-bodied palate, pliant tannins and abundant fleshy red fruit on the finish. This is the most promising of the Domaine's Village Crus at the moment." - Neal Martin (Oct 2024
