Winemaker Notes:

Méo-Camuzet is one of the most celebrated domaines of the Côte d’Or, located in the heart of prestigious Vosne-Romanée. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land in some of the most spectacular appellations and crus of Burgundy. The vineyard land in Burgundy is highly parceled out among families, which makes it rare for anyone to have enough vines to be able to bottle one grand cru, let alone the six that the Méos have.

At the foot of "la Tâche” and "les Malconsorts”, in a slightly deeper clay soil, the winery holds two plots of a total surface area of about 4 acres. With its classic eastward orientation and good supply of water, it is a fairly "solar” vineyard which cannot be considered as a late ripener. This organic 1er Cru from Vosne-Romanée is exactly what you’d expect: seductive, elegant, and seriously beautiful.

Tasting Notes:

Notes of red fruits, wet earth, and mushroom jump from the palate and lead to a lasting finish. While this wine is approachable in its youth, it is also certain to evolve gracefully over the next 5-7 years.

Ratings & Reviews:

94 Points - Decanter:
The Vosne Les Chaumes from Méo opens a bit slowly, but eventually it shows a lovely, expressive blackberry fruit with mineral and floral notes. The texture is substantial—firm and tannic with fresh acidity and a lengthy finish. The grapes come from two parcels that total just over two hectares, located just below Malconsorts. The vines are very mature and produce small clusters of concentrated, tannic fruit that Méo is not afraid to punch down and age with 50% new casks in order to deliver this muscular, dense wine." -CC (10/2022)

91-94 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"A strong even purple colour. The bouquet is up front delicious yet with evidently something more to come behind. Plenty of energy here, slightly dry at the moment, a deep red fruit even so, and the racking will bring it all forward. Drink from 2027-2033." (Nov 2022)

91-93 Points - Allen Meadows' BurgHound:
"The profile of the fresh and cool aromas immediately signals that this could be from nowhere else but Vosne with its hints of star anise, sandalwood, soy and red cherry scents. The texture of the medium weight flavors is gorgeous, mostly thanks to the admirably fine-grained tannins that also shape the balanced, complex and sneaky long finish. This is lovely and a wine that should be approachable after only 5-ish years." (Jan 2023)

90-92 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Offering up aromas of plums, rose petals, orange zest and spices, the 2021 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes is medium to full-bodied, bright and charming, its pretty core of fruit framed by powdery tannins and lively acids. This is a perfumed, immediate Chaumes in the making." - William Kelley (Jan 2023)

90-92 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2021 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru needed a little encouragement in the glass, a mixture of red and blue fruit with hints of pressed violet. The palate is medium-bodied with powdery tannins that frame the crisp blueberry and raspberry fruit, though the finish feels tight and broody at the moment, runs out the exit door with haste. Give it 3-4 years in bottle." - Neal Martin (Jan 2023)
