Winemaker Notes:
Méo-Camuzet is one of the most celebrated domaines of the Côte d’Or, located in the heart of prestigious Vosne-Romanée. The domaine boasts fourteen hectares of land in some of the most spectacular appellations and crus of Burgundy. The vineyard land in Burgundy is highly parceled out among families, which makes it rare for anyone to have enough vines to be able to bottle one grand cru, let alone the six that the Méos have.
At the foot of "la Tâche” and "les Malconsorts”, in a slightly deeper clay soil, the winery holds two plots of a total surface area of about 4 acres. With its classic eastward orientation and good supply of water, it is a fairly "solar” vineyard which cannot be considered as a late ripener. This organic 1er Cru from Vosne-Romanée is exactly what you’d expect: seductive, elegant, and seriously beautiful.
Tasting Notes:
Notes of red fruits, wet earth, and mushroom jump from the palate and lead to a lasting finish. While this wine is approachable in its youth, it is also certain to evolve gracefully over the next 5-7 years.
Ratings & Reviews:
92-94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2020 Vosne-Romanée Les Chaumes 1er Cru has a very pure and perfumed bouquet with dark cherries, violet and hints of blueberry, the floral component emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, fine acidity, silky in texture with a poised and almost delicate finish. A very winsome Vose-Romanée in the making here." - Neal Martin (Nov 2021)
91-93+ Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2020 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Chaumes unwinds in the glass with aromas of sweet cherries, cassis and rose petals, framed by a discreet patina of creamy new oak. Medium to full-bodied, velvety and vibrant, with lively acids, powdery tannins and a saline finish, it is very promising." - William Kelley (Jan 2022)
90-92 Points - Allen Meadows' BurgHound:
"Very Vosne-like aromas blend nose of clove and anise with those of black cherry, violet and cassis. The plush and lavishly rich medium weight flavors possess fine punch before culminating in a relatively robust, indeed even slightly chewy finale. This is certainly attractive in its fashion but it's not typical for Chaumes." (Jan 2022)
