About the Winery:

Domaine la Florane represents three generations of vignerons, two terroirs, but one same family spirit. Originally Domaine la Florance was the name for the wines made from vines in Visan, on land handed down by the family of Marie-Pierre Fabre.

The vines in Saint-Maurice, meanwhile, bore the name of  Domaine de l’Échevin. Guillaume de Rouville, a family ancestor who was mayor of Lyon in 1586, owned land in the Rhône Valley, back when silk ruled supreme. He inspired the name Domaine de l’Échevin, created by François Fabre in the 1990s.

In 2001, the family’s two estates began using the same, specially-built cellar, but each estate kept its name. Then in 2019, they were united at last under one name.

The cuvée names are unchanged: Échevin  and Guillaume de Rouville  are still used for the wines from the Saint-Maurice appellation.

Wines are made by Adrien Fabre (partner of Claire Michel of Le Vieux Donjon in Châteauneuf-du-Pape). Organic and Biodynamic farming on clay soils.

About this Wine:

Domaine de l’Echevin cuvée is emblematic of the rich fruit and the nature of the soils of Saint-Maurice-sur-Eygues.

Tasting Notes:

Exceptional soils yield a masculine, complex character. A deep ruby color, and peppery concentrated flavors in a delightfully rounded style. Bursting with fruit, fat and full-bodied, yet fresh on the finish.

Appellation: Côtes du Rhône AOC

Grape: syrah 90%, grenache 10%

Alcohol: 14%

Ratings & Reviews

91 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Tapenade, dark chocolate and cracked pepper all appear on the nose of the 2018 Cotes du Rhone Villages Saint Maurice Echevin, a blend of 90% Syrah and 10% Grenache, aged in concrete and demi-muids. Full-bodied and expansive on the palate, with an almost creamy, velvety texture, it's a potent example of Southern Rhône Syrah, finishing long, with hints of licorice and pepper." - JC (Nov 2020)
