Tasting Note:
Like its clayey soil, Clos de la Bussière, a Domaine Georges Roumier monopoly, is fleshy and powerful. It is a wine with real strength, a body and sometimes even a certain rusticity specific to Morey Saint Denis. Dominated by black fruits (black cherries, blackcurrants), Clos de la Bussière is a tannic wine; maturity gives it length on the palate.
Terroir:
The Morey Saint Denis vineyard includes 20 Premiers Crus and 5 Grands Crus planted on the hillside overlooking the eponymous village. Morey Saint Denis is at the transition between the vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin to the north and Chambolle Musigny to the south. The plots closest to Gevrey Chambertin generally produce the most powerful wines, while the latter become more refined as one approaches Chambolle Musigny. A true Cistercian enclosure surrounded by its wall, the Premier Crus Morey Saint Denis "Clos de la Bussière" is a former property of the Abbey of La Bussière. This vineyard, located to the south of the appellation, has remained a monopoly since its origins (12th century).

Ratings & Reviews
92-94 Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"A fuller and possibly brighter purple. First picked. There is a direct energy here with some blueberry fruit, this is evidently ripe but has retained its shape very well, with just a few tannins at the finish still to resolve. From another barrel much livelier, with redder fruit. This will deliver. Drink from 2030-2036." Jasper Morris (Nov 2024)
91-93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru has a clean and precise bouquet, with forest floor and hints of ceps infusing the dark berry fruit. It's a little introverted at first but it unfolds nicely in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and gentle grip. It's quite saline in the mouth with a precise, almost understated finish. This is a classy Morey Saint-Denis from Roumier. (Drink between 2027-2047)" – Neal Martin (Jan 2025)
