About the Domaine:
Domaine Georges Roumier was created in 1924. At that time, most of the production was sold to local merchants. In 1945, however, Georges Roumier initiated the practice of domaine bottling. Ever since, the reputation of the Roumier name has soared ever-higher. In 1981, Christophe Roumier and his father Jean-Marie became partners to jointly manage the Domaine Georges Roumier. Today, the Domaine covers 11.52 hectares in Chambolle-Musigny, Morey-Saint-Denis, and Corton-Charlemagne and makes wines that are profound, elegant, and consistently delicious.
About the Wine:
Grape variety: Pinot Noir
Area: 2.5925 hectares
Exhibition: East. Gentle slope, dome-shaped plot
Soil: The Morey Saint Denis vineyard has 20 Premiers Crus and 5 Grands Crus located on the hillside overlooking the eponymous village. Morey Saint Denis is at the transition between the vineyards of Gevrey-Chambertin in the north and Chambolle Musigny in the south. The plots closest to Gevrey Chambertin generally offer the most powerful wines, while the latter mature as you approach Chambolle Musigny. A true Cistercian enclosure surrounded by its wall, the Premier Crus Morey Saint Denis "Clos de la Bussière" is a former property of the Abbey of La Bussière. This vine, located in the south of the appellation, has remained a monopoly since its origin (12th century).
Average age of the vine: 35 years
Vinification & Ageing
Manual harvesting and sorting

Tasting Notes:
Like its clay soil, the Clos de la Bussière, a monopoly of Domaine Georges Roumier, is fleshy and powerful. It is a wine that has a real strength, a corpulence sometimes even a certain rusticity specific to Morey Saint Denis. Dominated by black fruits (black cherries, blackcurrants), the Clos de la Bussière is a tannic wine; Maturity gives it length in the mouth.
Ratings & Reviews
95 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"From a 2.59ha monopole of the domaine in Morey and fermented a bit more than half as whole clusters. The result is impressively dense, with a darker, plummy cast to the fruit and notes of bramble and garrigue. There is plenty of structure here, but also a surprising elegance and finesse. The wine comes together to a surprisingly persistent finish." - Charles Curtis MW (Oct 2020)
93 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"Full purple. A busy brusque, dark savoury fruit on the nose, though it is clearly ripe as well. Then a soft vanilla oak. There is a lot here, and quite typical of Morey, but it needs to harmonise. Not low in alcohol, but there is something classy here which promises well for the future. Drink from 2027-2034." (Sep 2023)
92 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"Ripe yet agreeably fresh aromas include those of poached plum, spice, violet and plenty of newly turned earth wisps. There is a lovely sense of underlying tension to the fleshy and rounded medium-bodied flavors that terminate in a firm, mildly rustic and warm finale. This should repay a decade plus of keeping yet be approachable after 6 to 8 years if that's your preference." )Jan 2022)
91-93 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Unwinding in the glass with aromas of raspberries, smoky cherries, rich soil tones and warm spices, Roumier's 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Clos de la Bussière is medium to full-bodied, lively and vibrant, with a fleshy core of fruit framed by youthfully chalky tannins that assert themselves on the finish. The most underrated wine in the Roumier cellar, this is a fine prospect for the patient." - William Kelley (Jan 2021)
91 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2019 Morey-Saint-Denis Clos de la Bussière 1er Cru has a lovely, well-defined nose of dark berry fruit, sous-bois and a touch of ash. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannins and just a touch of bitterness that imparts welcome edginess. Showing fine depth, this is not overly complex, but there is decent length. There's potential, but it needs to foment more personality. This is certainly not one of Roumier's best cuvées this vintage, though this is often not one of his strongest cards. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting." - Neal Martin (Dec 2023)
