Tasting Note:

The red fruit aromas of the Chambolle Musigny appellation are complemented by a pleasant floral bouquet. The originality of the 1er Cru "Les Cras" is expressed through its spring nose of acacia, wild rose and lilac. The 1er Cru "Les Cras" is a wine with delicate tannins, rhythmic with a good length and a pleasant hint of minerality on the finish.

Terroir:

The Premier Cru "Les Cras" is one of the 24 Premiers Crus that make up the prestigious Chambolle Musigny appellation. The subsoil of the Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru "Les Cras" is made of Upper Bajocian limestone marls, rich in Ostrea Acuminta fossils. It reveals all the specificity of the Chambolle Musigny subsoils. The 1er Cru "Les Cras" is located at the foot of a hillside on gently sloping terrain. Its soil, rich in active limestone, gives the wine its mineral character.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"This large 1.75ha holding is at the northern end of the lieu-dit, not far from Bonnes Mares, where it is planted in a terres blanches soil similar to the top of the slope. In 2019, the fruit has given a seductive result, with profuse raspberry aromas, a hint of ginger and liquorice. The texture on the palate shows plenty of extract, with sweet fruit but also a lovely depth and density. (Drink between 2024-2049)" - Charles Curtis, MW (Oct 2020)

94 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2019 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has one of the more classically-styled, reserved bouquets amongst its flight. Exhibiting more tertiary elements, this is exquisitely defined by presence rather than horsepower. The palate is very well balanced and lush, but not overpowering, with touches of Kirsch and orange rind, and a sprinkling of white pepper. Quite long and with a soupçon of exoticism toward the finish in keeping with the vintage, this is pure class. Tasted blind at the Burgfest tasting. (Drink between 2026-2048)" – Neal Martin (Dec 2023)

92-94 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"Clear pure mid purple, the nose is a bit more precise than the Combottes, though with more oak showing, and there is a good medium deep fruit concentration, which builds to the back. There is a light toasty note along with deep red cherry, and the expected persistence. Drink from 2027-2036." Tasted Sept 2023 (Dec 2023)

93 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"This is definitely ripe yet again quite fresh with its overtly floral combination of cassis, poached plum, anise, rose petal and discreet wood-suffused aromas. Once again there is a really lovely texture to the more obviously mineral-driven flavors that culminate in a highly refreshing, chiseled and youthfully austere finale that delivers notably better length. Impressive stuff that should age effortlessly." (Jan 2022)
