About the Domaine:
Jacques Seysses started Domaine Dujac in 1968 when he bought the Domaine Graillet in Morey-Saint-Denis, which he renamed Domaine Dujac (a pun on his first name, meaning the Estate that Jacques owns). This family-owned winery seeks to develop their vineyards through responsible vineyard techniques, which among other things led to the certification for organic farming in 2011.
About the Wine:
The lieu-dit Les Monts Luisants lies northeast of the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, at the top of the slope, where it is very steep (24%). This east-facing lieu-dit varies greatly in altitude, from 311 to 343 meters.
The soil on this hillside is 60 to 80 cm thick, rich in angular limestone gravel in a sandy-silty matrix. The soil is rich in carbonate, and very sensitive to erosion.
The Quaternary substratum of Les Monts Luisants is composed of limestone scree, bedded deposits known as litées grèzes. These angular Comblanchien limestone gravel deposits cover the slope in layers that are sometimes more than ten meters thick.
Ratings & Reviews
92-94 Points - Wine Advocate:
"The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru Monts Luisants Blanc is showing especially well, exhibiting notes of citrus zest, white flowers, toasted nuts and pastry cream, followed by a medium to full-bodied, tangy and incisive palate, concluding with a long, nutmeg-inflected finish." - William Kelley (Jan 2025)
90-93 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"A wonderfully fresh and bright nose is comprised by notes of green apple, citrus and cool mineral reduction. The intense and well-delineated, if less concentrated, middle weight flavors are shaped by lemon-tinged acidity on the markedly stony, clean and nicely dry but not really austere finale. The mouthfeel is classic Monts Luisants, e.g., like rolling a small pebble around the palate." (Jan 2025)
88-90 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2023 Morey-Saint-Denis Monts Luisants Blanc 1er Cru has much more tension and mineralité than the Village Cru, with touches of lanolin and peach skin. The palate is well-balanced with a fine bead of acidity, though it's a little sunny toward the finish. It doesn't possess the tension that a cooler season might have bestowed. Still, it should drink well for several years." - Neal Martin (Jan 2025)
