About the Domaine:
Jean-Pierre de Smet defined the winemaking style at Domaine de L’Arlot with his philosophy that “the more one knows, the less one interferes.” In 2002, he brought biodynamic farming to the domaine and even cured the wood that would eventually be made into the estate’s barrels. Jean-Pierre retired in 2007 turning over the estate to Olivier Leriche, who followed the same philosophy and believed that every decision has to “respect the soil, respect the plants, and ensure that both are in harmony with the environment.”

About this Wine:
The Grand Cru vineyard of Romanée Saint Vivant is a neighboring plot to the famous Romanée-Conti. Its soils are composed of a mixture of clay and limestone, producing vines averaging 40 years of age.The vineyard has been organically farmed since 2000, and has additionally become bio-dynamic since 2003.

The grapes are hand picked, twice sorted (once on the vine, then at the crush pad after being picked). All transfers are made via gravity flow. By avoiding the use of pumps, the integrity of the grapes are better preserved. Domaine de l'Arlot takes a very hands off approach to winemaking.

This wine is aged 15 months in French oak barrels (228L), 50% of which are new.

Romanée-Saint-Vivant takes its name from the 10th-century monastery of Saint Vivant, whose monks originally tended the vines here.

Tasting Note:
This Grand Cru displays lovely concentration on the nose, with its characteristic notes of violet and peony. Subtle and silky on the palate, it is well-balanced, with good structure and firm tannins enveloped in flavours of black cherry and blackcurrant. Very harmonious and balanced on the finish, which proves to be very long, this is a sophisticated and elegant wine that might even surpass the previous vintage.

Ratings & Review

95-97 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2024 Romanée-Saint-Vivant Grand Cru comprises two barrels instead of the usual five with one barrel new. It has fine concentration on the nose in the context of the vintage. The palate is well balanced with ample structure, quite solid tannins but cloaked in layers of pure black cherry and cassis fruit. Very harmonious and poised on the finish that feels very sustained, this is a sophisticated and classy RSV that might even outclass the previous vintage." – Neal Martin (Jan 2026)

94-96 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"A fine ruby purple. A very classy Romanée St-Vivant nose, all in finesse with energy behind, maybe a touch lighter than usual, yet with all the class. Medium-bodied, maybe, but very stylish, with an extremely graceful long pure red fruit finish. Very well done. Drink from 2032-2038." (Nov 2025)

94 Points - Decanter Magazine:
"The aromas of the 2024 Romanée-St-Vivant from Domaine de l’Arlot are a bit shy at first, but on the palate, the fully ripe plum and blackberry fruit aromas begin to reveal themselves. The texture is silky, almost lush, and there is great elegance, particularly given the difficult vintage. The grapes are from the domaine’s 0.25ha in the section once known as the Clos des Quatre Journaux just up the slope from the Dujac vines. Two barrels were produced in 2024." – Charles Curtis MW (Oct 2025)
