About the Domaine:
Jean-Pierre de Smet defined the winemaking style at Domaine de L’Arlot with his philosophy that “the more one knows, the less one interferes.” In 2002, he brought biodynamic farming to the domaine and even cured the wood that would eventually be made into the estate’s barrels. Jean-Pierre retired in 2007 turning over the estate to Olivier Leriche, who followed the same philosophy and believed that every decision has to “respect the soil, respect the plants, and ensure that both are in harmony with the environment.”
About this Wine:
The vines Clos de l’Arlot sprawl across rocky, rugged soils and grow upon extremely steep hillsides making harvest and care a painstaking task. The exposure promotes ideal ripeness without causing any imbalance to the grapes, as this bottling takes on a beautiful combination of firmness and opulence that represents Burgundy to a T.
Rartings & Reviews
"The 2019 Nuits Saint-Georges Clos de l'Arlot Blanc 1er Cru has a well-defined bouquet showing white flower/dandelion, Golden Delicious apple and light honeysuckle aromas that gently unfold in the glass. The palate is well balanced and displays the waxy texture that I found on the domaine’s other whites this year. There is a touch of textural creaminess, and suggestions of stem ginger toward a finish not far removed from a Corton-Charlemagne." - Neal Martin (12/2020)
90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate:
"The 2019 Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru Clos de l'Arlot Blanc mingles aromas of pear and orange oil with hints of white flowers and fresh bread. Medium to full-bodied, satiny and precise, it's elegantly exotic, with a perfumed, charming profile this year." - William Kelley (1/2021)
89-91 Points - Allen Meadows' Burghound:
"Here too there are whiffs of petrol and quinine on the citrusy aromas of mostly white fleshed fruit. There is excellent density to the almost thick and unctuous full-bodied flavors that brim with sappy dry extract that buffers the lemon-tinged acidity supporting the stony finale that flashes excellent length."
