About the Domaine:
Many domaines in Burgundy can trace their roots back over 100 years, but only a handful can claim more than 200 years of history, let alone 550 years. Highly regarded as the greatest estate in Chambolle Musigny, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is now headed by its 20th generation – Claire de Causans and Marie de Ladoucette, the granddaughters of the late Comte Georges de Vogüé. The estate's longstanding employees have also contributed to the brand's outstanding quality vintage after vintage with Jean Lupatelli  as Winemaker, Jean-Luc Pépin as Sales Manager since 1988 and Eric Bourgogne as Vineyard Manager since 1996.

The winemaking approach at Comte de Vogüé is one blending tradition and modernity, with a constant adaptation to both vineyard and vintage conditions as the priority. The current team of François Millet, Eric Bourgogne, and Jean-Luc Pépin has worked tirelessly since 1986 to maintain the impeccable reputation of the domaine, while also leading a critical role in incorporating a philosophy of lutte raisonnée into the domaine’s practices. As such, all vines are currently ploughed, free from exposure to chemical fertilizers - instead, herbs are planted between vineyard rows to control pests - and kept under control by strict pruning. The stated aim is, as much as possible, to tailor vinification to the year and to the particular vineyard or grapes. In winemaker François Millet’s view, getting to know the idiosyncrasies of each patch of vines is a cornerstone of his work.

About the Wine:
2015 is the first vintage since 1993 that this white grand cru has been labelled as a ‘Musigny Blanc’, perhaps the rarest of all grand cru white Burgundies. The plot of vines that produce the domaine’s Musigny Blanc – just 0.6 hectares – has been undergoing sporadic replanting since the 1980s but the Domaine now feels the vines have achieved the desired maturity.

Ratings & Reviews

95 Points - Allen Meadows' BurgHound:
"A ripe yet distinctly cool nose combines notes of citrus confit, spice, Granny Smith apple, white peach and an all but invisible application of wood. The super-sleek but almost painfully intense larger-bodied flavors possess a mouthfeel that is akin to rolling rocks around the mouth on the bone-dry, youthfully austere and compact, indeed very tautly wound, finale that goes on and on. This is terrific and as good a vintage for this wine as I have seen since the 2015 when they began declaring it as Musigny Blanc again. It won't be easy to find but this is one to strongly consider." (Jun 2024)

94 - 96 Points - Jasper Morris' Inside Burgundy:
"Bottled end October. Fine pale lemon colour with a definite green tint. Tense powerful crisp fruit, the crunchy side of orchard fruit, then builds in richness to the back, before rediscovering its minerality to finish. Notably persistent, I can see the point in Musigny Blanc more easily than I used to!" (Nov 2023)

93 Points - Vinous Media:
"The 2022 Musigny Blanc Vieilles Vignes Grand Cru was bottled at the end of October. It has an attractive nose with scents of grapefruit, white peach and wax resin, quite pithy in style. The palate is well-balanced with a fennel and walnut-tinged entry. As usual, I'd never get this as a Chardonnay - it's a sui generis - but quite delicious." - Neal Martin (Jan 2024)
