Jean-Francois Coche officially retired in 2010 but there will clearly be continuity of style in the hands of his son Raphael who has been working alongside his father since 2003. There have been some changes already in the detail: the vineyards are now all ploughed, and a pneumatic press has been ordered to work alongside the old mechanical Vaslin.
The wines are firmly crushed before pressing, which must surely be a factor in the Coche-Dury style, then fermented and matured in barrels using a relatively low percentage of new wood, not exceeding 25% except for the very top wines.

Ratings & Reviews
97 Points - Wine Advocate:
"Coche began to release his 2016 Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru last year, and the wine is just beginning to unwind, offering up aromas of citrus oil, peach and pear mingled with freshly baked bread, toasted almonds, iodine and struck match. Full-bodied, broad and layered, with a dense core of concentrated fruit, racy acids and a long, saline finish, it's from a climat that was largely spared by the frost in 2016. Drink 2024-2040." - William Kelley (Jan 2024)
96 Points - Vinous Media:
"Very tight but pure scents of citrus peel, wet stone and menthol, plus a whiff of toasty oak (37% new in 2016). Remarkably silky, fleshy and broad and yet this grand cru conveys an almost electric impression of energy that's rare for such a layered, rich wine. A bit less citrussy than the Perrières but this wonderfully full, concentrated Corton-Charlemagne boasts compelling sweetness and its extremely long finish stands out for its sheer sappiness. Like the Perrières, this wine should enjoy a long and spectacular life in bottle. Drink 2026-2040." - Stephen Tanzer (Sep 2018)
96 Points - Allen Meadows' BurgHound:
"A background note of matchstick character is present on the ripe citrus, spiced green apple and airy white flower aromas. There is good if not massive size and weight to the rich, fleshy and mouth coating large-scaled flavors that evidence obvious power while brimming with minerality on the almost painfully intense and sneaky long finish where the only nit is a hint of warmth. As is often the case with the Coche Corton-Charlemagne, it is built for the very long-term and it wouldn't surprise me if 20 years was necessary to see this at its full maturity. Drink 2033+" (Jun 2019)
